Slacker vs Pandora (vs "Radio")
I’m not sure I’d agree that Pandora sucks, but I do see the benefit of having humans pick music instead of an algorithm.
Pandora is really cool for picking a song/artist you like and discovering new music that is similar. You skip along this music journey that is pseudo-random. Sure, you have to skip through some crap, but hopefully you end up finding something that will surprise you and make that journey all the more rewarding.
Sometimes though, you just want to have someone else pick the music for you and program your journey and make sure you see a good overall experience instead of just stumbling along. That is why it I’m glad there is still radio (Slacker, Sirius XM, terrestrial radio) of some sort.
I hope both internet services survive since I do see them filling different niches. In the end it is all about choice and when it comes to music the more choices the better.
