Simon St. Laurent: Why is HTML Suddenly Interesting?
This article was about to fall out of my Google Reader All Items folder, so I decided to take a break and read through it. Glad I did. It does a good job of summing up why we are living in a bit of a renaissance with HTML and other web technologies. I liked this point:
In the mad rush to build mobile applications, HTML 5’s competition isn’t even desktop web browsers, but other mobile development toolkits.
Very true. The world is a different place from that WWDC keynote where the announcement was made that web apps (shit sandwich anyone?) were the way to go when developing for the iPhone. Most iPhone apps (mine included) makes a lot more sense as a web app instead of a native app, especially when you take into account the HTML features added as part of the 3.0 version of the iPhone OS.
