Who Gives a F*** About an Oxford Comma?
(He doesn’t use the serial comma because he’s British. How quaint.)
The Times style manual
Avoid the so-called Oxford comma; say “he ate bread, butter and jam” rather than “he ate bread, butter, and jam”
My Mom always proofed my papers when I was a kid and made sure that I didn’t use a serial comma (also known as an Oxford comma or a Harvard comma). As I grew up and went to college then onto the work force I noticed that everyone seemed to employ the serial comma.
Until today I had no idea there was a term for this. It wasn’t until I read this post by Marco about supercars that I learned that there was such a term.
(The title of this post comes from this song, for those unaware of Vampire Weekend)
